Simplicate data into Power BI and your Azure data warehouse

Yres retrieves data from Simplicate through the Simplicate REST API. You only provide the name of your Simplicate environment; Yres builds the API address from it. Sign-in uses an Authentication-Key and an Authentication-Secret from Simplicate, sent as two headers on every call. Results are fetched in blocks using offset and limit. Everything lands in an Azure SQL database in your own Azure tenant, where you combine Simplicate with your other sources for Power BI.

What you arrange yourself
- 1Make sure you have a Simplicate account that may create API keys and can see the data you want to expose.
- 2In Simplicate go to Settings → API and click New in the top right. You receive an Authentication-Key and a matching Authentication-Secret.
- 3Read the name of your environment from the address bar: in https://myorganisation.simplicate.nl it is myorganisation.
- 4Add the Simplicate source in Yres with that name, the key and the secret.
When you need this — and when you don't
A standalone connector is enough if…
If, as an agency, you only steer on hours, projects and utilisation within Simplicate, the reporting inside Simplicate already gives you that insight.
Yres adds value if…
Yres earns its place once hours and projects from Simplicate have to sit next to your accounting, payroll or budgets in Excel, or when you want to see how project data was adjusted over time. Simplicate shows the current value; the data warehouse holds on to the earlier versions.
Frequently asked questions: Simplicate
What do I enter as the Simplicate domain name?
Only the name of your environment, without https:// and without .simplicate.nl. If you log in at https://myorganisation.simplicate.nl, you enter myorganisation. Yres turns that into the API address itself, on the simplicate.app domain.
Which Simplicate data can the connection see?
Whatever the user behind the API key can see. In Simplicate an API key belongs to a user and takes over that user's permissions. So create the key under a user with access to the data you want in your reporting.
Does Yres have its own Simplicate connector?
Partly. Simplicate has its own three-field form in Yres, so you do not have to work out addresses or paging settings. Beneath that form runs the generic REST connection, with the Simplicate address, the two sign-in headers and the paging already filled in.
How does Yres fetch large volumes of hours or project lines?
In blocks. Yres keeps asking the Simplicate API for the next block using an offset and a limit, until no more rows come back. This way of paging is fixed for Simplicate; you only set what to load and how often.
