Connect Salesforce to Power BI and your Azure data warehouse

Yres reads Salesforce with the Azure Data Factory Salesforce connector and signs in using OAuth2 client credentials. You create a Connected App in Salesforce, give Yres your My Domain address, the Consumer Key and the Consumer Secret, and choose which data to load. No person logs in. The data arrives in an Azure SQL database in your own tenant, where every load type is available and incremental loading works on one or two delta columns.

What you arrange yourself
- 1Look up your My Domain under Setup → Company Settings → My Domain.
- 2Create a Connected App via Setup → App Manager → New Connected App, switch on Enable OAuth Settings and choose Client Credentials as the OAuth flow. Enter a callback URL and the OAuth scopes you need.
- 3Assign the user on whose behalf the client credentials flow runs and check that user's read permissions.
- 4Open the app in App Manager → Manage Consumer Details and copy the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret.
- 5Add the Salesforce source in Yres with these three values.
When you need this — and when you don't
A standalone connector is enough if…
If you only want to track your pipeline, leads and sales activity, the reports and dashboards inside Salesforce are all you need.
Yres adds value if…
Yres earns its place once you want to set the sales pipeline against what was actually invoiced in your accounting or ERP system, or see where an opportunity stood last month or last quarter. Salesforce shows the current state; the data warehouse keeps the earlier versions.

Does someone have to log in with their own Salesforce account?
No. Yres uses the client credentials flow of a Connected App. You configure once in Salesforce which user that flow runs as; after that every load uses the Consumer Key and Consumer Secret, with no login screen.
What are two delta columns for with Salesforce?
Sometimes a single modified date does not tell the whole story, for instance when a record has both a created and a changed timestamp. You can specify two columns of the same data type; Yres takes the higher value per row and fetches everything newer than the previous load.
What happens to records that were deleted in Salesforce?
That depends on the load type. With a full or incremental load, missing records stay marked as current. If you choose the IMAGE load type (full snapshot), Yres closes records that are no longer delivered. History is kept in both cases.
Do I need a self-hosted integration runtime for Salesforce?
Normally not: Salesforce is a publicly reachable service and the cloud runtime is enough. Only if your policy requires outbound traffic to go through your own network do you select a self-hosted runtime on the source.
